A Better Tomorrow

✍️ It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the state of the world today. Headlines often paint a bleak picture of fear and frustration. It is enough to make anyone fear the future or at least question what lies ahead. But beneath the noise, there’s another way to see the moment we’re living in. It’s a time of rapid, and sometimes disorienting, change, yes—but also a time of great possibility. As I think about the kind of world my children will grow up in, I find myself reflecting on what kind of future we’re really headed toward. Because the future isn’t something we inherit passively; it’s something we shape. As a future parent, as a citizen, and as someone who believes in the promise of America, I believe we are capable of building a better tomorrow.


🗽 What America will your children grow up in?

My children will grow up in an America that is better than the one we have today.

Despite the constant fear-mongering of many public figures on both sides, America is unique. While it still has its troubles, it is still the greatest country there has ever been.

Right now is a uniquely tumultuous time, but I do not think it defines our future. The challenges of today will certainly affect the future, as history is something we carry with us and learn from, but we will rise above the petty partisanship and polarization of today. We are being brought into a new age of tech and media that we do not fully understand. This new landscape lends itself to the pettiness and falsities that we so often see. However, I believe that as we grow more accustomed to this new world, we will begin to see the world rebalance itself. That doesn’t mean that there will be no hardship or challenges, I just believe we will persevere, as humankind has always done, and continue forward and upward.

I choose optimism about the future of America because I intend to do what I can to make it a good place. If I believed that it would be worse than today, it would be super easy to rationalize never having children, but I see no reason not to have kids. Our kids have a serious possibility of living in the greatest version of the world. Technological advancements, medical breakthroughs, and much more will provide an experience for our children unrivaled by any previous generation. It is up to us, their parents, to make sure we leave the world in a way that they will be able to find success—that they will be able to move beyond division into a new way of thinking.

⚖️ Don't forget the basics

As we move forward into uncharted waters, it would also do us good to remember the principles and structure upon which this great nation was founded on.

If we lose the soul of our nation, there will be no America to protect.

Moving forward, we have an opportunity to realize those founding principles to an even greater degree than our founders were capable of implementing in their day. We have a massive responsibility to our children to not mess things up. The only reason we will need to worry is if we do nothing to make the world better. If we can’t get over our simple differences, we will never see that world materialize. I have faith that we will. I believe that we will overcome and go beyond what we have seen in our relatively short but extraordinarily eventful lives.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 We owe it to our kids

Our generation has learned via the firehose method of world events—9/11, constant wars in the Middle East, a global pandemic, and extreme polarization—but also considerable amounts of amazing things—innovation, global poverty declining, sustainable agriculture processes, emphasis on clean air and water, desire for equal opportunities for all, and greater access to education and learning. The world is constantly at our fingertips. We are uniquely positioned to shape the world into something overwhelmingly positive. We owe it to our kids. We owe it to future generations. That is a heavy responsibility, but I think we are up to the task. With the new tools we have access to, we will discover new solutions to old problems—everywhere from the Israel-Palestine conflict to cancer and everything in between—as well as apply old, successful solutions to new problems. As we move forward toward greatness and positivity—the problems of today will become merely distant memories that we can reflect on and learn from.
